ABOUT BALMAIN for H&M
French designer Olivier Rousteing is 30 years old and has been the Creative Director of Balmain since 2011. In just four short years Olivier has brought a much-needed fresh take to the Balmain aesthetic and fueled an explosive growth in the brand’s sales and popularity thanks in part to social media. Balmain Paris now has over 2.6 million Instagram followers and Olivier Rousteing has over 1 million followers on his Instagram, the first French designer to do so. His social media presence and clout goes even further thanks to his circle of celebrity friends like Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and Rihanna. The global launch of his Balmain collection for H&M has been Olivier’s personal dream in the making.
“I want to talk to my generation, this is my main aim as a designer. H&M allows me the unique possibility of bringing everyone into the world of Balmain, get a piece of the dream and create a global #HMBalmaination: a movement of togetherness, fueled on a hashtag”
Olivier has brought the couture feeling that Balmain is known for to his H&M capsule collection – “it’s really a celebration of my couture pieces for Balmain, obviously I changed the techniques, I changed the beading to make it more affordable but I tried to keep the couture feeling”. Olivier said he wanted to launch the collection in New York City because “America is all about mix and diversity and this collection is all about mixité also – that’s why I think America is going to love it…we’re all about diversity and America is one of the most beautiful countries that is diverse – I’m really proud this collection is launched here”.
The Balmain x H&M Collection by Olivier Rousteing will be available in H&M US stores and worldwide, as we’ll as online
starting on November 5, 2015.
